The Prowler suffered a similar series of accidents -- five EA-6Bs crashed between August, 1980 and November, 1981. As with the Intruder, these accidents were attributed to pilot error. To insure safety, an intensive training program was instituted for pilots of both planes. Since that time, the Navy has decreased the rate of Intruder and Prowler accidents and increased the rate of missions each plane is able to fly.
